Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 20 minutes
Servings 20 donut holes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour spooned and leveled
  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar plus more for coating
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  • In a microwave safe bowl or on the stove, melt your butter and let cool. Once cool, add the egg, buttermilk and vanilla extract and whisk until combined. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon & nutmeg and mix until combined. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and fold together, being careful not to over-mix. If the dough is too wet to handle, add more flour (tablespoon by tablespoon) until it is easy to roll the dough into balls.
  • If you are frying the donuts, pour three cups of vegetable oil in a pot and let heat until it gets to 360 degrees Fahrenheit (try to maintain this temperature as best you can!). Roll the dough into tablespoon size balls and carefully place in the oil for 2-3 minutes, flipping every 30 seconds or so to ensure they are not burning. Remove from the oil when they are golden brown and immediately place them in a bowl with granulated sugar. Toss to coat, and then move them to a separate bowl/plate to cool.
  • If you are air frying the donuts, fry them at 350 degrees for 10 minutes until golden. Remove them from the air fryer and toss in granulated sugar.
  • Once the donuts are cool, melt chocolate in a microwave safe bowl or on the stove, and drizzle on top of the donuts. Enjoy!!
